Fun with plastic cameras

While in Colorado, the trance-fusion band "The Disco Biscuits" put on a free flash-mob acoustic concert in Boulder.

Tribute to Hunter S. Thompson

This is a recreation of a portion of Hunter S. Thompson's book "Kingdom of Fear" where he recalls wishing Jack Nicholson a happy birthday by leaving a severed pigs head on Jack's front porch and then fires 10 rounds with his shotgun into the woods.

Personal space

Constantly restless and bored, personal space as far as I am concerned is always in motion. For the past week I have been on the road from Denver to Chicago to Milwaukee to Champagne and back to Denver. Armed with nothing more than a backpack full of clothes, just enough cash to make it to Chicago, a pack of camel lights and tunes by Neil Young I departed Denver. Sleeping on friend's (and friendly stranger's) couches left me with very little privacy. No matter, this car has taken me to all corners of the country and feels more like home than any apartment or house.

4/20 boulder

So, about a week ago, myself and two friends convinced our photojournalism teacher to let us get out of class early to document the annual 4/20 celebration in Boulder, CO. For those of you that aren't aware, 4/20, for some reason is the date that everyone that smokes marijuana decides to celebrate the use of the drug. With Colorado's lax marijuana laws, public displays of marijuana have become the norm on 4/20.

Not one of us had ever been to this celebration before. In our heads we imagined something of a peaceful protest against the laws declaring marijuana illegal. We expected booths from anti-prohibition to be set up. We expected it to be more than a bunch of Boulder kids, playing hippie with their parents money. We were very wrong.

As it turns out, the celebration was no more of a protest than a frat-party is. Now, I'm not trying to be negative. Once I got over my initial disappointment of not being able to get the shots I wanted, I began to enjoy it for what it was, pure celebration and happiness. I am particularly happy with this shot. Being a drummer myself, I am instantly drawn to the sounds of drums. That is when I found this drum circle and began shooting. It really reminded me of the happiness and joy of summer, music, and good friends. As I was watching this take place in front of me I became engulfed in a feeling of nostalgia, for which I wasn't sure, but it made me feel good.

First entry, with love.

So here I am, finally jumping on the blogwagon. After deciding to make a blog, I was unsure about how I would start it. But then as I was walking back to my school from shooting some photos at wax-trax, (a local record store) God, Ra, Allah, Buddha, or maybe just a friendly atheist, decided to smile upon me. I saw the writing in the photo to the left. What better way to start my web-log, than with a quote like that. It really got me wanting to know who wrote it, and what their current state of emotion was, as they were writing it. Regardless of that, it put a smile on my face. So, thank you sidewalk poet, whoever you may be.
